Atlantis FC 1 v Banstead Old Boys 2 - 14 Oct 2007
If
Banstead Old Boys existed in a parallel
universe and were a carton of a dozen eggs in your weekly shop, you would’ve
been back at Sainsburys pronto holding the opened container under the
supervisors nose and enquiring why you had been sold a box of sprouts. Looking
across the field at their opponents the Atlantis faithful might have felt like
they had equally come a cropper under a miss use of the Trade Descriptions Act.
The Banstead collective were no more Old Boys than Manager Johnson was Ryan
Giggs once. This reporter couldn’t help noticing that he had football shirts
older than most of them. The omens were already bad for this fixture, the County
Cup something of a hoodoo for the boys in dark blue. When it comes to cup
competitions Atlantis appear to have a mental block having only ever won a
single tie to date. (For the record they have only ever won one friendly – and
one of those was against themselves). Whether it be a motivation thing or even
bad luck it must surely be linked the fact that a lot of players do seem to go
missing when the words “Cup Tie” appear on the fixture list.

The true special one delivers
victory with style. An emphatic return to winning ways this
week for the boys in blue after the disappointment of last Sundays draw. Manager
Johnson, making use of his generous squad, rotated a few players and gave some
regulars a week off to enjoy a Saturday evening socialising. Baker was still
sidelined due to re- deading his dead leg and Robinson was jetting back across
the Atlantic, first class no doubt.

exact science Sunday’s casual onlooker would have considered the two competing teams
to be neck and neck in their respective league. If, however, that same observer
where told that in fact it was top versus bottom they may have been hard pressed
to determine which was which. Mayford, in their black and red strip, took up the
early running and had Atlantis back peddling toward their own goal.Read

Match Report
The correspondent was in a privileged position to watch the unfolding saga on Thursday
night played out between the members of the Atlantis board and its management. Following
a successful vote of confidence from the chairman and club president in favour of
manager Johnson, the duo went on to release a statement announcing that any rumour
linking the recently sacked Mourinho with the club was purely speculation. In a
hastily arranged press conference designed to impress upon the fans and shareholders
that the club was not in crisis, the three were asked whether it was true that they
had been involved in a tussle over a Chelsea application form...Read

Atlantis returned to Goldsworth Park for the first home game of season boasting
a strong squad even though several key players were absent. Not wanting a repeat
of last year’s personnel problems Manager Johnson signed enough cover to embarrass
the present Spurs squad. This meant that the bench was 5 strong for the first time
in the clubs long 2 year history. With an eye on the promotion places Manager Johnson
also has high hopes of a good cup run or two. A cursory glance at the players at
his disposal this season one might suspect that he was planning a tilt at Europe.
The season, already one week old, had produced a win for the boys in blue with a
7 -1 away victory at Horsley & Clandon...

"Inspite very strong squad and against only 9 man, I was very disspointed with
first half performance but all came together in the second half. Believe you me,
I am very pleased with overall result. Credit goes to opposition who have fought
very well. All in all, good game of football, with very high fair play mark. I am
looking forward to the next game, our first game at home this season."
